GDay all.

Been stalking this site for some time and about time I subscribed.  Inspired by the impressive photos here!
Started the hobby in Aug 22, and used a ZWO 183MC, SW ED72 and SW AZEQ6.  The mount is used for my 10" newt.  Thought I was a guru after 6 months so straight to a ZWO 2600mm, FW, EAF, and OAG-L.  Tried to stick that on my ED72 ...so much for being a guru.  So required a new scope and purchased an Askar FRA500.  I can now get some sort of photo and somewhere to put them.

Hi Stephen.  Welcome from a fellow countryman, although I've not been long here myself.  Your first upload is a beauty.  Can thoroughly recommend a look everybody

Hi Stephen, great first image.

I'm another new member from Sydney. While I've known about Astrobin for years, I only recently started imaging, though thankfully I have an experienced imager in my club to turn to for advice.

Hi Glenn, Nick

Its a great hobby but I now have very little hair left...
Glad you liked the photo.  Went a tad mad on a mosaic...
I will have a gander at your photos shortly.  Nick, its great you can turn to your club for a tad of assistance.  The club I'm involved with; the members are mainly visual.
Appreciate the welcome from all and Aussies.

Wait until you have no money left 🙂

Welcome, from another Sydneysider. You'll find Astrobin a great source of inspiration and information.

Hi Stephen,

Welcome from a former Sydneysider (Balmain) - now retired across The Ditch.

That is a super-impressive first post.  Great work!

Gday Frank Brian

Appreciate the welcome. Ta
No money....that's occurred.   Glad you gave the photo a thumbs up.  I did two mosaics last year but four panels; they did not tax my computer.  Didn't realise the work in a larger one.
Great place to see impressive photos.

Love the mosaic. Would be nice to see a short account of how you did that from the shooting to the final image.

I have yet to attempt a mosaic...

Hi Nick, Daniel

Hi appreciate the replies.   Ta  Hi to NZ.
Fairly new to mosaics.  I did two prior,  four panel Rho Ophiuchi and a four panel M42 and Horse.  I will upload them soon.  I can give you a heads up Nick but far from a guru.  One thing on a mosaic that I did not think about ; it can slow your computer down some, if going large.  I had no dramas with a mechanical hdd though.
Thanks fellas for the thumb up.

@Nick regards you question.  Ill have to write a little.
I used the sky atlas on the ASIAR Plus.  It then creates a plan.  Enter your filter/times etc.  Stack your images.  I separated Ha and Oiii images.  Imported the Ha into PI and ran MosaicByCoordinates.  I did a Dna Linear fit to the outputed MosaicByCoordinates files, and then ran GradientMergeMosaic and did the same for Oiii.  Combined the Ha and Oiii with pixmaths.  You can use chanelcombination for HOO etc.
I separated the stars.  I then used two masks, one for red and blue on the main photo.  RGB/K in curves to brighten.  Used a little MLT with a mask protecting the Oiii for sharpening. With stars; I just added exponentialtransformatin and combined again.   BX in correct mode only for stars.  60% NX on completion.

Hardest part for me was GradientMergeMosaic.  I wanted no artifacts, so did quite a few of them.
I did no prior work to the subs whilst non stretched ..left that to last. (i did on my first few attempt's but the out come was way too sharp)

Hope that helps.
Steve
