Description

Veil Nebula as seen over multiple sessions during the Summer of 2014. Data was collected starting at GSSP and through several nights at Montebello Open Space Preserve in July and August.

Total of 24 sub exposures for 8 hours of integration. Many near-overlapping frames made it difficult to properly align the images to eliminate transparency differences.

Stellarvue SV scope with SSF6 flattener, IDAS HEIUB-II filter with Pentax K10D (modified and cooled) dslr.

Calibrated with Maxim, Stacked in DSS, Processed in PixInsight.

PI work was pretty easy, given the clean source. Didn't need to do a lot of noise reduction, just a little in ACDNR. I normally use the Denoise tool, but the masking was proving too difficult for my skills with too many stars and the faint nebulosity. Tighted up the oblong stars with Deconvolution tool.

The oblong stars are my returning challenge regarding what might be flexure. Still trying to nail this once down and I may have to struggle through Calstar with this problem.
