Description

Vale de la Luna, Atacama - Chile

Four Galaxies can be seen simultaneously on this panoramic picture - all of them easily visible to the naked eye from a dark sky far away from big cities - The Large Magellanic Cloud, on the left; the Small Magellanic Cloud, right above and to the right from its galaxy sister; the arc of our Milky Way at the center; and Andromeda Galaxy on the far right of the image.

The picture was taken on October 18th, 2014, from a point near San Pedro de Atacama known as Coyote Stone. On the backgroung one can see the city lights from San Pedro, aswell as the small villages of Socaire and Toconao, and a tortuous road that connects the city of Calama to San Pedro.
