Description

The Owl Nebula - At 2,030 Light Years away from earth, in the Big Dipper, this object has an apparent magnitude of 9.9. An interesting fact about this object is there are less than 100 particles of "Matter" (Hydrogen, Helium, Nitrogen,Oxygen, and Sulfur) per CUBIC CENTIMETER! That's not very much matter at all, yet we can see it more than 2,000 light years away! The outer radius is about 1 light-year across!

I was lucky enough to stumble across this one the other night, and I have no idea how I found it. My process is to find objects through my Celestron Skymaster 20X80 Binoculars, pinpoint the closest and brightest stars that I can see with my naked eye, and star-hop over to the object.

A magnificent sight to behold!
