Description

NGC 3953 (mag 10.8) is the smaller, dimmer often overlooked partner of M109 located just over a degree South and West of M109 in Ursa major. It is part of the M109 group of galaxies which are listed at about 55 million light years distant. It is classified as a "barred Sprial" although much like M109 it looks like the "bar" is limited to the core area. The fainter galaxy to the upper right are PGC 37164 (14.8 mag) is listed at 55 million light years so it is local to n3953. The fainter one in between os PGC 37256 which has very limited info available on it, but it does appear to be part of the group also. This was shot over several nights over the last few of weeks. Seeing was "below average."
