Description

A (kind of) old image, with a very short integration time on a beautiful southern target - NGC 3372 or the Carina Nebula.

I found this image to be extremely difficult to post-process,due to the short exposure time, the not-so-perfect tracking (stars not perfectly round), and the sheer amount of stars in the FoV, and I'm still not pleased with its colors, which were my main problem during processing. The data seems to be quite good, as well as the detail I captured (for a unmodded, stock canon APS-C DSLR) in the faint, red, H-alpha nebulosity. However, the image looks a bit overprocessed, and too HDR-like to my personal taste. It is a HDR of different stages on the processing, to show the core details.

All told I'm pleased with it, but I will give it a try at reprocessing when I have the time, only after having edited all the data from this holidays (July). Therefore, so far that's my version of it, but I would definitely call it "Version 1", instead of "Final Version". ; ) Constructive criticism and comments are always welcome. Clear skies!

Taken from Rural Skies (Bortle 3-4), in Rural Cristina, MG, Brazil. Thanks for seeing,

Camera: Unmodded T4i/650D at ISO 800

Lens: Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 (non VC), at 200mm and f/3.5

Exposure Detail: 15x120s; or 12x2 minutes; total 30 minutes.

*Revision -C- is a simple crop from version -B-, on the most interesting region, the Eta Carinae Nebula itself. This is the frame of a tipically short APO, at about 500mm FF equiv.*
