Description

ngc6939 is an attractive open cluster very close to ngc 6946 in the sky but, of course much nearer to us in real terms. It is a mere 4 KLy away. At magnitude 7.8 and subtending 8 arc mins. in the sky it too fits quite nicely onto my ccd chip. It would be nice sometimes, to have a wider field of view and get both of these objects on the same plate but for now I have to settle for separate images. Note how the stars are much sharper on this image. 6 X 30 second images added to yield a much tighter final effort. Of course, much less contrast stretching is required for bright objects like open clusters, which also helps to keep the image resolution up.
