Description

OH 231.8+4.2 is a protoplanetary nebula superimposed at M46 in Puppis. It joins Minkowski 1-18 and NGC 2438. It is also known as the Rotten Egg Nebula and QX Puppis. It looks interesting: first you have the bipolar outflow that is typical for protoplanetary nebulae but then you have this Ha "shell" which is atypical. It barely appeared above the noise, so apologies for the blueish background. I used destructive noise reduction which obviously wasn't a problem since the shells were barely there at all.
