Description

The Flame Nebula - NGC 2024 in Narrowband

9 hrs integration with RGB stars

Often photographed with it's companion, the Horsehead - B33.

However, to me that classic composition is very busy, almost too much to look at in one frame - so I'm just concentrating on the swirling molecular clouds that make up the flame itself.

This is three hrs of Ha (20min subs) three hrs S2, two hrs O3 (all 5nm astrodons) RGB stars (10x1min ea)

Tone mapped with J-p Metsavainio method and processed in Startools & PS6.

Hope you like it

Title: The Flame (Narrowband)

Description: After the "Great Astrobin Crash of 2019," I've been gradually restoring some of my lost high-resolution versions of older images. This particular one dates back to 2016 when I was only two years into the hobby.
I decided to reprocess it from scratch using current tools, which proved to be an intriguing challenge.

Here are the key takeaways:

1) Good data is irreplaceable, and unfortunately, my backyard's light pollution (rated as a Class 6 on the Bortle scale) continues to pose challenges.

2) Investing in quality equipment pays off immensely. My experience with Takahashi refractors paired with Astrodon or Chroma filters has been consistently exceptional. (For this image, I used a William Optics FLT110 with Astrodons.)

3) Astropixel Processor has proven to be far superior to Nebulosity in terms of processing efficiency and results.

Overall, this reprocessing endeavour has not only allowed me to salvage lost data but has also provided valuable insights into the evolution of astrophotography tools and techniques.
