Description

Sadr (Gamma Cygni )is a bright super giant in the constellation Cygnus. Among the brighter stars visible, it is an enormous star, with 12 times the Sun's mass and about 150 times the Sun's radius. The surrounding giant HII region (IC1318) forms a nebula complex with two components bisected by a thick dust lane forming the "Butterfly Nebula". Next to Sadr the Rocking Horse Cluster (NGC6910) appears as a yellowish open cluster when looking through the reddened interstellar dust. The region also contains the Crescent Nebula (NGC6888) which is an emission nebula formed by fast stellar wind colliding with slow moving wind ejected from a red giant, creating a shock wave.

I went out several nights in early June to get a widefield image of the Sadr Region. There were lots of high clouds passing through but I was able to finally get enough usable data for this image. This image is from 152 x 120sec frames with my modified T3i and 135mm lens at f/4 on a Skytracker.
