Description

This is one of my newest galaxy images -- the Leo Trio (or Leo Triplet, or M66 Group).

It's a popular galaxy group target. My composition isn't anything extraordinary.

However, for this image, I broke from some old habits. I took advantage of my dark skies with 10-minute subframes (8 total). And on my QHY10, I ignored the timid (and commonplace) 16 gain value for a rebellious 23. Those changes made a huge difference to my subframes -- a double win.

Like any galaxy image, my immediate response is "...needs more exposure time...". Maybe more subs. Maybe going for a few 15-minute subs. With Leo's current position low in the west, I'll need to wait until later this year for a another chance.
