Description

Sh2 -112 is an emission nebula visible in the constellation of Cygnus .

It is located in the northern part of the constellation, about 1.5 ° to WNW of the bright star Deneb.

The best time of observation in the evening sky falls between the months of July and December and the best locations for viewing are in the northern hemisphere.

The nebula is an H II region with a circular apparent size of about 15 ', crossed by a dark band on its western side oriented north-south. It is believed that the excitement star responsible is BD + 45 3216, a blue double star of the spectral class O8V with an apparent magnitude of 9.18. Estimates on the distance of this star provide a value of 1740 parsecs (about 5670 light years ), and that would place Sh2-112 in a region of the particularly rich Orion Arm and physically very close to the great Cygnus X system. The image was captured with the venerable Meade 12"LX200 Classic, using the Atik 383L+ mono at F7.16 (i.e. 2182mm FL). Astronomik's Ha, OIII and SII narrow band filters were used. All subs were taken at 1x1 bin, and -10C and 10 minutes each.

Image information -- 2016

Ha : 50 subs (8.33 hr) on Jul 20th, 23rd and 24th.

OIII : 24 subs (4.00 hr) on Jul 21st and 22nd.

SII : 27 subs (4.50 hr) on Jul 21st and 22nd.

Color Mix:

Ha = Red

S2 = Grn

O3 = Blu

Processing was with PixInsight, following (for the most part) kayronjm's tutorial of Feb. 24th, 2013. Ha was used to develop the Luminance image. Ha, OIII and SII were collected for the color mix. North is up, and this is a slight crop.
