Description

This was on my short list of targets for this summer. I was expecting to use the Hubble palette (SHO) but wasn't happy with the results. So, although it might be sacrilegious, I went with a simple HSO combination instead. It seems to highlight the pure Ha and pure O-III areas nicely, without allowing the Ha to overwhelm the results as it seems to with an SHO combination.

Description: Reprocessed end-to-end. My original darks had issues (double-subtracted bias?). Also combined all the lights into a low-noise luminance and used that for detail. Palette is a "tri-color": Ha & S-ii for red, Ha & O-iii for green and slightly strengthened O-iii for blue. Might be a touch too intense, but I'm happier with what (to my eye anyway) seems to be richer nebulosity. The first version struck me as anemic.

Description: One last pass: trying to soften the transitions. This time I closely followed the translation of J.P. Metsavainio's tone-mapping technique described here: L'arciere Celeste which led to cleaner star removal and a more nuanced luminance image. Also cropped differently to give the triangle some room to breathe.
