Description

The Horsehead and Flame Nebula

Taken over 3 nights in LRGB and then lots of Ha to show the nebulosity.

The Horsehead and Flame Nebula are approximately 1500 light years from Earth and is located in the constellation of Orion, by the left most star (Alnitak) of Orion's belt. The darkness of the Horsehead is caused mostly by thick dust blocking the light of stars behind it. The Flame Nebula is a heavy star-forming region. At the centre of the Flame Nebula is a cluster of newly formed stars.
