Description

Subject: Sh2-274 (Medusa nebula) in Gemini. Once thought to be a supernova remnant, is now considered to be a planetary nebula, albeit a large one. Roughly 1500 light-years distant and 4 light-years across.

Capture notes: Taken under what is passing for clear skies in Seattle this winter: almost continuous thin clouds passed overhead while I was taking lights, particularly the Ha lights.

Processing notes: This is an HOO combination, with O-iii boosted in the blue channel. The clouds added a fair amount of noise which I finally decided to make peace with. Did a fair amount of reduction on it, but wanted to pull up some of the fainter detail as well which was just above the noise level: some extra graininess seemed to be the price.
