Description

I originally labeled this object M106 because I thought that was what it was. I've imaged M106

several times and none of my images even remotely resembled this object. I've thought about

this a lot since 3-19-17 when I originally imaged this object. Tonight 4-5-17 I decided to image

M106 again to see what happens. Well my image tonight was exactly the same as the image I

took on 3-19-17. I knew something was wrong. I checked my Pocket Sky Atlas and NGC 4449

was fairly close to M106. I use a red dot finder to locate objects. I've visually observed M106

more times than I can count in the last 40 years so I knew where to position my red dot finder.

Come to find out my red dot finder must have gotten bumped because it was no longer calibrated

correctly. I would point it at a star and the star would not be in the field of view when I looked through the eyepiece. However I pointed the red dot finder where I knew M106 should be

located and lo and behold there was a faint fuzzy in the field of view. However it was not M106

It was NGC 4449. My red dot finder was out of calibration just enough to when I pointed it

at M106 the scope was actually pointed at NGC 4449. I get wordy sometimes and I'm sorry

for that. Also I probably should not be letting everyone know what an idiot I am. I changed

the Title of my image and felt I needed to give an explanation why. I have looked at several

images of NGC 4449 on the internet and have confirmed that is what my image is not M106.
