Description

As usual when the sky is not cooperating I spend my time trying to improve my processing skills

by reprocessing old images. I stumbled upon this object by accident while searching for M106 to

image. In fact I thought I was imaging M106 until I processed the image. I guess I might be the

only one on this web site that didn't know this object existed until I accidentally imaged it. There is

a lot of info on the internet concerning NGC 4449 plus some beautiful images. I discovered while

doing research on this object that it has a bunch of different names which is unusual. The Box Galaxy (B.Wilson), Hourglass Galaxy (S.O’Meara), Lobster Galaxy (O.Brazell), Train Wreck Galaxy (J.Lowery), and The LMC. This is classified as a starburst galaxy because it has an elevated rate

of star formation activity within the galaxy. I also read where scientists discovered a very dim

"S" shaped galaxy near NGC 4449 that they theorize collided with NGC 4449 and ignited this

star formation activity. What I found interesting also is this "S" shaped galaxy has less brightness than the night time sky. How do you find and see an object that has less brightness

than the night time sky? Anyway this object reminds me of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. NGC 4449 is very photogenic and would make a fantastic

target for a large aperture scope using Ha filters etc. With all of that said this is an image that

I originally captured on 3-19-17 and cropped and reprocessed on 4-26-17. Please enjoy.
