Description

The Cigar Galaxy, also known as Messier 82, is a star-burst galaxy about 12 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. M82 is about 5 times as luminous as the Milky Way and the central star-burst region is 100 times more luminous than our galaxy's central region. The starburst activity is thought to have been triggered by interactions with neighboring galaxy M81.
