Description

Second image from the Green Bank Star Quest: the Pelican Nebula! Also known as IC 5070, it is an HII region (a region of hydrogen gas emitting at a specific red wavelength) that is associated with the North America nebula, up in the constellation of Cygnus, the swan, near the easily identifiable star Deneb. The blue regions are where the gas reflects the starlight. It lies about 1,800 lightyears away.
