Description

First light with QHY367c camera from Negev Desert (this site was recently declared by IDA as officially recognized natural reserve).

This is cropped view from larger frame. There were few reasons for presenting the cropped version: I've made a mistake during manual camera angle selection: I wanted to orient the FOV to 90 degrees, but by mistake set it about 0, so that some large part of the resulting FOV was less interesting (I could reorient the camera, but decided not to spend extra time on that). The other reason for crop was time it took for new version of PixInsight to perform Local Normalization on full frame - it quickly caused entire RAM on my processing machine to be consumed and it started very heavy use of paging file. If I've left the PC running this was for hours, it could have killed my HDD. Doing the Local Normalization after significant amount of crop was much lighter and took less than an hour without causing too much of HDD paging activity. As alternative, I could have split the image into at least two overlapping images, then run the LN and II separately on each panel and then merge them together as mosaic.

Anyways, I'll need to upgrade amount of RAM on my machine from 18GB to something bigger, maybe 24GB.

Regarding the new camera I've used for this image, QHY367c, I pretty much like the results I'm getting. It's very sensitive, very low read and dark noise. In fact, since I didn't have time to acquire the dark frames, this image was processed without any dark frames calibration at all, only bias and flats were involved. I also tried to use the camera tilt angle adapter with limited success, since I couldn't yet find matching software for making efficient angle adjustments. I need to research more on this subject.
