Description

This is my first image with a new set of filters from Astrodon. It only uses the RGB, so I am anxious to try out the new 5nm Ha, Sii Oiii set. It is also only my second image with the MEII with absolute encoders. Such a joy to not need to do any guiding, which over the years has been a great source of frustration and lost imaging for me.

IC 4603 is a reflection nebula visible in the constellation of the Ophiuchu.

It is located in the southern part of the constellation, north of the red star Antares and is a small part of the Cloud of Rho Ophiuchi illuminated directly by the radiation of HD 147889, a blue giant of spectral class B2III located anteriorly to the densest part of the cloud, but completely surrounded by its gases. This star has a very reddish spectrum, which reveals that its light is filtered and partly masked by the cloud in which it is immersed; his young age indicates that it originated from a process of stellar formation within the same Cloud of Rho Ophiuchi. The measurements of the parallax, which provides a distance of 443 light years from the solar system, that is identical to that of the cloud, provides further proof of the link between these two objects.
