Description

The Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) is a beautiful emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus nearly 5000 light years from Earth. This image was shot at just over 5000 feet elevation atop Chews Ridge in the Los Padres National Forest on 8/11/18 in new moon conditions. Favorable onshore winds allowed my friends and I to enjoy some rare clear air in the middle of all of these fires. This was the first time pointing my telescope at this nebula, and my first evening in the wild for my focal reducer+Moonlite+Sesto Senso - everything worked like a dream! Being able to lock my mirror to avoid mirror flop and automate my focus was a huge win for me. This is probably some of the best data I’ve ever shot, and I did so off the grid at my longest and most challenging focal length. What an amazing experience.
