Description

Sharpless 2-101 is a bright emission nebula that is around 8,000 light years distant in the constellation of Cygnus. The nebula is ionized by the young star HDE 227018 – the bright star close to the blue ‘arc’ of gas just to the left of centre in this image.

Data for this image were collected from my home observatory in the UK. Data collection began on 14 July and continued through until 18 September 2018.

This is an SHO (Hubble Palette) image. Technical details:

Telescope: TEC 140ED

Camera: QSI 690 WSG

Filters: Astrodon

Mount: Mesu 200

Ha: 22 x 1200s

OIII: 21 x 1200s

SII: 10 x 1200s

A total of 17 hours and 40 minutes exposure.
