Description

With one EQ mount returning to Celestron for warranty and the other now sporting a bad power board, I've been trying to enjoy shooting the solar system using my Alt/Az mount. Shooting some of the first objects but with a few years of experience and processing techniques has been an interesting comparison.

- Stacked in PSCS6 using automatic alignment and median stacking. Each of the 2 mosaic pieces contains 300 frames. Once each stack was flattened, the two frames were combined with layer masks into the full Lunar image

Processing Luminance:

- PixInsight RestorationFilter for Deconvolution / Sharpening

- A few passes of Unsharp mask in small pixel values (Decon did most the work really)

- 2 passes of ACDNR for Noise Reduction

- HDRMultiscaleTransform to deepen contrast, especially around the Copernicus crater area

- Curves edits for Contrast

Processing Color:

- Noise analysis in PixInsight found R channel to be the least noisy

- Ran Linear Fit process in PI to match G and B to R channel

- In PSCS6, several passes of Saturation increases and decreases using a continually inverting luminance mask to color darker regions while keeping the highlands under control

Combined / Final Processing:

- Split channels of Color image, used PixInsight LGRB process to combine color and luminance image

- Final curves adjustments completed in Photoshop to reduce background brightness

- Resized and added signature
