Description

The Soul Nebula is an emission nebula in Cassiopeia. It is located some 7,500 light years from Earth. There are a number of small open clusters embedded in the nebula, including IC 1848, CR 34, CR 632 and CR 634. The Soul Nebula is also catalogued as Sharpless 2-199, LBN 667 and Westerhout 5 (named after the Dutch radio-astronomer, Gart Westerhout; 1927-2012).

Data were captured between 19 November 2017 and 11 January 2018 from a remote imaging rig in Spain, which is owned and operated by Barry Wilson and me. This is a two-panel mosaic:

Telescope: Takahashi FSQ 106

Camera: QSI 683 WSG

Filters: Astrodon 5nm NB

Mount: 10 Micron GM1000HPS

SII: 42 x 1200s

Ha: 42 x 1200s

OIII: 42 x 1200s

A total of 42 hours.

Data capture: Steve Milne & Barry Wilson

Image processing: Steve Milne

Description: Rework from scratch again. I thought the earlier version was a little too 'moody' and dirty. I hope this shows a little more clarity.
