Description

Canon 70D

Ioptron Startracker Pro

Rigel system quick finder

Vintage Pentax 50mm f1.4 manual lens stopped to f3.5

12 60sec. exposures at ISO 1250

Stacked in Photoshop.

At f stops 1.4, 2, 2.5 this lens did very poorly but it all started to clear up at f2.8 and was very nice at f3.5.

Canon APSC cameras have a 1.6 x crop factor, so a 50mm lens has the field of view of an 80mm lens on a full frame camera.

For my astro photos I hook up the camera to my Macbook Pro to be able to see a larger live view picture for focusing. I raise the ISO to something like 6400 or more to be able to see the stars better, find focus on a bright star like Jupiter and then turn the ISO down again. That works pretty well.

Then I give it the intervalometer commands right from the laptop with the Canon app.

That way I can see a larger picture each time an exposure is finished and not have to rely on the little on-camera flip-out screen for quality control and framing.
