Description

This is data that I had stockpiled since the summer. I’ve been on a kick with these starless images as I’ve been fully tone mapping most of my stuff. Some of them don’t work out well for starless finish but others do. Don’t know what to think of this but I hadn’t ever seen a starless version of it before so I thought I’d share both versions.

The Crescent nebula, NGC 6888 is the product of the tremendous stellar winds of a Wolf-Rayet star. These relatively rare stars are massive, young, and highly luminous. Gasses cast off during formation of the star are overtaken by intense radiation and fast stellar winds causing a shock wave to form. Visible are the hydrogen gas of the nebula and surrounding areas (red) as well as an oxygen envelope surrounding the nebula (blue).
