Description

I finally got the data together for the whole Veil nebula, and processing turns out to be a nightmare. Here a step by step how I processed it so far:

1. Stacking with DSS, 2x Drizzle (took out with PI-Blink the bad ones before)

2. PI-Deconvolution by obtaining PSF from the image, star masks for local support and overall star mask from stretched image.

3. PI-ABE (tried out different values but stuck with the default settings).

4. PI-DBE (chose carefully around 50 spots)

5. PI-Multiscale Linear Transform (parameter set to 33%, 4 layers, threshold 3,2,1,1)

6. Stretched images with PI-Histogram Transformation for all panels in the same way.

7. PI-Morphological Transformation (twice with different star masks for bigger and smaller stars)

8. PI-Resample image (I believe that was a mistake after trying to combine the HOS frames, will try to do this with the original (not resampled) ones again).

9. Another PI-Deconvolution to get cleaner stars.

10. Combine all panels into 1 using PI-Star Align, that worked well for the individual channels, but failed horribly (see step 8) to combine the 3 narrow band channels.

11. Final work in PS (background noise reduction, black point, etc.)

I will continue working on the other channels (Step 1 - 9 are already done), but have to find a solution for the mismatch when combining them. In the meantime the Hα version as my first part.

Description: This is my first try to get a decent HSO image together, as expected this is not that easy. Will work a bit more on it, but after 20 hours I will have a short rest from this project.

Description: A second try to get all the panels into one image, this time all color calibrations were done in PS.

Description: Since there is nothing else to do than waiting for CS, some fun work on "older" images. Added to the 6 panel the individually processed one and tried to balance the background as best as possible. Panels are still visible, but my eyes are not as good so for me it is fine ... LOLOL.

Description: Worked on the Western Veil as well since it did not fit the others anymore. One can clearly see the boundary between the reprocessed and the original image. Gives me an idea how to tackle the next panel. For sure the star suppression worked out very well in the individual frames, that would need to be done for the remainder of the image as well.

Description: Thought that it would be interesting to see how big the whole Veil Nebula actually is. Added the Lunar Eclipse Moon into it, that would be great if one could see this with the naked eye like that! And yes, this is adjusted for correct size :-)
