Description

This wide field features Scorpio over the center of the Milky Way. Jupiter is left of center and the Rho Ophiuchi complex is clearly visible but with less red than in my previous composition due to the IR cutoff filter built into my unmodified camera.

I captured this image with my Panasonic GX7 using a 20mm prime lens from my dark sky site. This was my first attempt at stacking images with a general-purpose camera. I used a Vixen Polarie star tracker on standard photographic tripod.

This image represents 30, 40 sec exposures at ISO 1600. I took 30 darks and 30 bias images as well. I did no flat calibration. I did not use the built in "long exposure noise reduction" feature. In the future I will experiment using that feature instead of manual calibration.
