Description

Messier 63 is a flocculent spiral galaxy where the spiral arms are patchy, rather than continuous. Thus the galaxy has discontinuous regions of star formation stretched into spiral patterns by the galaxy's differential rotation. M63 is about 30 million light years from us, a part of the M51 group, and is about the size of our own galaxy.

This image stack was processed with 2x drizzle, and then the final image was developed with an LLRGB type protocol.

Description: Here is the same image processed in Startools and a little in photoshop. While I am still on the learning curve, I am impressed with the control of the image, particularly the dynamic range, detail and color. A part of the learning curve as well, is that this enables me to see all the defects in my data, and to thus learn how to improve my acquistions.

Description: While I was happy with the detail, this image had a blue cast, and galaxy colors were not quite right. Also, I was missing a lot in the fainter outer regions that I wanted to pull out of the background. And with more Startools experience behind me, I thought I could do better. Hopefully I did.
