Description

This object is a faint small barred spiral galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules. Its apparent diameter to us of 3 arc-minutes corresponds to a span of 85,000 light years. This galaxy is type SBcd, which is unusual. It has a bright, long central bar but little structure in the galaxy arms.

The rarely imaged galaxy does not show any visible signs of deformation. I find the blue tint of the top portion of the bar to be interesting, which I assume is a region of strong star formation.

The edge-on spiral galaxy to the lower left (PGC 60007) as well as the bright elliptical galaxy to the left (NGC 6343) are both much larger galaxies but are about 4 times further away from us than NGC 6339.
