Description

Widefield view of the Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405) and the Tadpole Emission Nebula (IC 410). Both nebula reside in the constellation of Auriga, latin for "charioteer", but their distances very different.

The Flaming Star Nebula lies an estimated 1,500 light-years (ly) away and its bright central star designated as AE-Aurigae is an O-type variable star that energizes the surrounding hydrogen gas that reminds me of waves crashing on a beach.

Compared to the relatively close Flaming Star Nebula, the Tadpole Emission Nebula (IC 410) lies 12,000 ly away. The most prominent feature in this nursery are the two tendrils of gas that resemble tadpoles. The nebula surrounds a young cluster of stars designated as NGC 1893.

I hope to continue working on this image but weather has not cooperated. I've got some OIII data but need some SII to complete this narrowband shot.
