Description

This is ngc 6654, a rather strange looking barred lenticular galaxy in Draco.

There are few details to be seen, in some ways it almost looks like a ring galaxy.

In my image it appears reddish so is probably made up of mostly old disk stars with no new star formation going on, but interestingly, the 2MASS catalogue indicates IR emission which may indicate some hidden star formation going on.

The quasar indicated is one of the brightest known quasars with a redshift indicating a distance of over 10 BLy - thats 10 BILLION Light years! It's mag. is 17.5, very bright for a quasar.

My image the result of 33 x 120 second exposures.
