A minor update, this time

Written by on Feb. 16, 2012 .

Hi all,

I just pushed a minor update to the site. The main new features are:

  • You can now search by telescope aperture! Head over to the search page, expand the "Gear" section by clicking on the [+] link, and use the slider to choose a range for the diameter of the telescope in millimiters.
  • You now have a plot for the views of each image, and also globally for your profile.
  • I split some views using a tabbed interface, so your profile page is not so crowded.
  • There were some visual improvements for better UI consistency.
  • I added a North/South and East/West option for the latitude and longitude of your Locations, please check that they are alright or adjust accordingly, it takes a minute!

Then I fixed a bunch of minor bugs, of course. Hopefully you will enjoy the additions.

Thanks!

    Hi Salvatore,

I think you notice it, but there is a display problem with some "light gray frame". The right border is no more in the darker gray frame below (in the private messages section for example, or right here, in the comments section).

By the way, the new profile interface is much better! Good work!

Thanks, I can confirm that this happens on IE7 only. I'll try to fix it tonight.

Okay, now it should work in IE7-8-9, Firefox and Chrome. Let me know if you find some page I forgot to fix :) Thanks!

I am now confused about entering my longitude. It tells me to enter 80 -+180 and also asks for east/west. If you are going to ask for east/west then you should want a number from 0 to 180, there's no need for negative numbers. At least change the 80 to zero. Also, if you're going to ask for north/south then the latitude only needs to be 0 to 90.

Are you ever going to make these locations public? I would like to be able to search for pictures taken from certain locations so I can decide where I want to move to. On the other hand people may not want their exact location published. Maybe you could make it accurate to within a couple hundred kilometers.

Hi Steve, you're right, actually that "80 -+ 180" was a type. I've fixed it to read "(0-180)", so it's clearer.

Anyway, it was just an error in the help text: the field would accept only values between 0 and 180, and same for the latitude: between 0 and 90.

About making the locations public: I first need to implement some privacy settings, so users can decide whether or not make their locations public, and with what precision (degrees only, for example, or degrees and minutes, or full).

Then I will start to plot images on a map. That will help users to find dark spots nearby :)

    Thanks!

That's great! It will be a very nice feature. Thanks.
