Thanks for creating this group It seems like the best place to share tips and tricks and general experience with QHY10.

Here is my story:
I own QHY10C for 8 months now, and so far I found using this camera fairly challenging.
Setting GAIN and OFFSET was confusing and then I had multiple issues with creating darks and bias using Maximdl… and post processing my images, I blame
all that on me, mainly because this is my first CCD… learning to use this camera requires a lot of patience.

Outsideof the above, I find this camera to be very noisy (electronic noise), single 300 second frames are much noisier than those taken using my unmmoded Canon EOS 70D from the same place, and also I find the fan in the camera to be a bit laud.

All of the above made me to put the camera away for few months, but two week ago, I decided to give another go.
I removed the camera from the sealed container, connected all the cables as per user manual and once everything was ready I have noticed strong burning smell
and visible smoke coming out of the camera!
I ran to switch all off, and later contacted the dealer in Italy.
Gladly the camera is still on warranty!
Dealer contacted QHY which advised them on troubleshooting steps, and last update that I received from the dealer is that they have repaired the camera, but awaiting some special screws to be sent from China before they would be able to ship the camera back to me.

I was not informed what actually went wrong, but I hope the camera will be repaired well. I still have few months remaining before the warranty expire so fingers
crossed my 1700 euro camera would not have to be written off
I hope my not great experience with this camera so far is alienated and that everyone else is very happy with the QHY10 camera that they have purchased

Odd.  I have only had praise for my QHY10.  I moved from imaging with a Canon 50D and 70D to the QHY10 about a year ago, give or take.  Since then I've been imaging with the QHY10 exclusively.  I have found it fairly easy to use,  and, unlike your experience, the noise level has been so low that I've actually not used darks on some of my images (though that is not the norm).  My issues with the camera have been related to the image orientation.  It seems that the QHY10 gives SGP problems when it comes to using the 'center here' function in SGP.  SGP thinks the image is flipped.  WHen used with my Hyperstar the center here function works perfectly.  But as far as the camera's sensor and hardware it has been a workhorse.

Thanks Michael.

If you don't mind, I would appreciate if we talk further on PM. I have receive my camera back from the service and as far as the service is concerned the camera is fine.
I am really interested in the pollution levels from the place you usually take frames and what method you apply to achieve good GAIN and OFFSET.

Any other tips would also be great if you can share.

Hi all,
to set gain and offset of my qhy10 I've followed the instruction of user manual (confirmed by forums), but I don't undestand how it's possible to set gain to 0 (a lot of people say that 0 is a standard setting). After the setting procedure I have found this setting: Gain 15 - offset 120.
Another thing.
I'm not very happy that we have to follow a sequence to cable and uncable the camera. It's possible that, for one time, you make a mistake to do the sequence and you risk for this to break the ccd??? I know that after sometimes it becomes automatically...but a mistake could happen, or not?
Sorry for my english :-)
