Description

This object is a galaxy cluster of about 30 galaxies, located 300 million light years away in the constellation of Lynx at a declination of +34 degrees.

Most of the galaxies in this image range from 40,000 to 60,000 light years in diameter. The one exception is NGC 2832, the massive elliptical galaxy NGC 2832 at image center which anchors the cluster. This magnitude 13 galaxy is over 200,000 light years in diameter. It has an unusual structure for an elliptical, with an oblong shape and a bright inner shell.

NGC 2832 also forms the basis for Arp 315. I recently took a closeup of this object with my C11 setup and I will be posting it in a few weeks.
