Description

Here we have three galaxies of different types in the same image. They are located just above and to the right of the constellation Ursa Major (the Big Dipper) and are all roughly the same distance from us, between 12-13 million light years. M81, or Bode’s Galaxy, is on the right and is a spiral design galaxy about half the size of our own Milky Way. M82, also called the Cigar Galaxy, is on the left and is an irregular starburst galaxy. NGC3077, or the Garland Galaxy is a disrupted elliptical galaxy. This image consists of 125 three minute images stacked, so 6 hours and 15 minutes total, and worth noting is I didn’t throw out a single subframe, which is pretty rare, or maybe I’m just getting lazy. This was also my first time using multi-star guiding in PHD2. Coincidence?
