Description

This object is a series of objects located away in the constellation of Cassiopeia at a declination of +70 degrees.

The object in the upper left of the image is vdB 7, a reflection nebula next to the bright star HD 17138 (RZ Cass). The star that is illuminating the nebula is the weaker orange star to the right of the bright star. The nebula is only 200 light years away and is less than half a light year wide.

The reflection nebula just right of and above image center is vdB 9. This nebula is much farther away than vdB 7 at about 1400 light years. It is about 3 light years wide and is illuminated by the bright star at its center, HD 17463 (SU Cass). I find the structure of this reflection nebula to be interesting.

The dark nebula on the left side of the image is LDN 1358. The two dark nebula on the right side, close together, are LDN 1355 (larger) and LDN 1357 (smaller). I love how these nebula appear to be completely isolated from the surrounding brighter star field surrounding them, almost to the point of being lonely out there.
