Description

I've been having problems with ice forming inside my ASI294MC Pro camera. Most of the images that went into this photograph showed artifacts created by ice. There were some without ice and the final image seemed to be OK, but I'm sure there was some loss of SNR.

I will continue to add more subs to this image and update it when the weather permits.

About the ice -

I took the front plate off the camera and put both parts into a sealed plastic food container with a 1lb bag of desiccant. I let it sit overnight, cooked the 4 desiccant tablets that stay inside the camera and put everything back together. I still had the ice formation - possibly there is moisture between the front of the sensor and the glass that protects it ??? If I cool the camera down very slowly and in steps I can get away with it as long as I don't cool it too much.

Anyone else with this problem ???? Let me know.

Most of the images were taken with bad collimation of my secondary mirror (Newtonian). I thought the ice artifacts were caused by the secondary mirror so I bought a new mirror and siliconed it to the pedestal. I didn't get it centered correctly so I has some bad collimation in many of my images, even though the collimation process went the way it should. I have since re-attached the secondary mirror and the collimation is better, but I believe I need a jig to get the secondary in the correct position on the pedestal. No one said it would be easy. If I can't get it right I will buy a new secondary mirror already attached to the pedestal.
