Description

Rosette Nebula
Emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros

This is a hydrogen star-forming region about 5000 light years away. It's huge - over twice the diameter of the full moon. The bright stars in the middle are young offspring of the nebula. The intense radiation from these stars is like a wind blowing the matter of the nebula away, leaving the hole in the middle.

I've photographed this before, in January of 2018. This is a significant improvement over my previous effort. I managed to get 4 hours of good data - pretty darned good considering the recent weather in New York state!

I'm also having good results with the ZWO ASI294MC-Pro camera now - it's taken me a while to get used to it. While it's more light-sensitive than the Canon 550D, I don't think it's as color-sensitive, so my processing skills have had to improve to compensate.
