Description

Most astronomers know this as the Elephant Trunk Nebula in the constellation of Cepheus, but I've always felt it looked more like a beautiful woman. For some reason, it actually reminds me of the famous Venus de Milo statue that sits in the Louvre.

This feature of concentrated gas is part of the larger HII region known as IC1396. The gas cloud is thought to be home to new star formation with very young stars that are under 100,000 years old. This formation alone is roughly 20 lightyears long.

I combined some data from last year with some new captures. I'm now at over 14hrs of combined Hydrogen, Oxygen and Sulphur exposures, plus another hour of RGB images for the stars.

All data was captured from my backyard near Toronto using a WO FLT132 refractor, ZWO 2600MM camera and iOptron GEM45 mount.

I hope you enjoy it.
Clear SKies!
