Description

Mostly prominent in LRGB, however, the nebula itself is bright in Ha. Processing was easier using only a small contribution of the total Ha due to the skewing of colors in the nebula from reddish-orange to more pink hues without any additional details.  The original stacked image was somehow very short on the color blue which was evident within the bluish nebula IC 2067, so an additional 70 minutes of blue captured with my SVX-102T seemed to solve the color problem.

See also the additional images for starless versions of Ha and Lum data.  I've been using Russell Croman's StarXTerminator (for fee) module in PixInsight lately to remove stars and it's impressive how it'll remove stars yet leave behind faint fuzzies.  A couple of the brighter objects can be seen in the starless Lum image.

The Northern Trifid nebula (NGC 1579, Sh2-222) is a diffuse nebula in Perseus located about 2100 light years distant and is 3 light years across.  It has a similar appearance to the more popular and well-known Trifid Nebula in Sagittarius.  The star cluster contains the emission-line star LkHa 101 which provides much of the ionizing radiation in the nebula and is also a strong emitter of Ha light.

Imaged over several nights:  Oct 18, 19, and 31; Nov 4, 5, 7, and 24, 2021.
