NGC 2736 - Vela Supernova Remnant

Exposures:
R: 20 x 300 sec
G: 26 x 300
B: 23 x 300
H: 30 x 120 sec
O: 21 x 120
Total Exposure time used: 23.75 hours

Note: >2.5 hrs of L was tossed—wasted telescope time! Adding L to an image with sufficient RGB does not add any detail to an image, despite myths to the contrary.

Image Width: 35 arcMinutes
Processing (in PixInsight unless otherwise stated):
•    Images were anti-aliased by applying a Nyquist Reconstruction to the raw subframes
•    Images were blinked and weighted using my Subframe-Weighting-Tool spreadsheet
•    Ha and OIII emission lines were separated from the spectral continuum, and Ha and OIII were mapped to their true colors and combined into an RGB image using my Narrowband-Assistant script
•    The image was color-calibrated (using PCC)
•    The image was stretched, primarily using Arcsinh stretching and finishing with STF/HT
•    Stars were removed (using StarXTerminator)
•    The starless image was processed in Topaz Studio2 and, Denoise AI, & Aurora AI
•    The stars were reintroduced using Bill Blanshan’s script
•    A little more sharpening and color adjustment to make it the bold art I relish

This image has been cropped from the massive 61-megapixel frames down to 48-megapixels, then down-sampled by 30%, before posting on Astrobin. The original was a great start at a large-print image but sure made for slow image processing.

I had flats available for all subs except the OIII subs; frankly, none of the images needed calibration. The new camera and clean filters had no dust motes, and the frames were amazingly flat, and as with most CMOS sensors, the noise was only 1-3 electrons/pixel. There were hot pixels in abundance (that passed as stars, in some cases, when applying SS to the images), but they were dispatched with Cosmetic Correction.

All in all, a challenging image!
