Description

This is the second image I've shot without the Celestron .7x focal reducer, and again I have spectacular stars, color and detail despite the poor seeing with average FWHM between 3-5. I'm convinced more than ever that the reducer is trash for imaging.

Besides the horrible CA, I've discovered that I had horrible internal reflections with the reducer when imaging broadband. Initially I thought this was due reflections coming from inside the scope tube and thought I could mitigate it with flocking. Flocking an SCT can be a painful process since you have to remove both the primary and secondary mirror to coat the inside of the tube. I'm so glad I didn't do this, as all the reflections were apparently being generated by the reducer. Yuck...

M100 is an awesome target. I shot this briefly before with my 6" RC, but 2032mm focal length makes such a difference. Under better seeing conditions I bet this image would look spectacular. But still, I'm very happy with how it turned out.
