Taken at Ottawa Lake State Park, around May 8, 2021, new moon during an MAS Visual Observers Star Party - just getting around to processing.

This is taken with a Vixen A80ss WT, which for many is used as a guide scope mounted on a larger scope, or at 400mm as a birding scope with an AMICI, which I do use it for as well. Ultimately, at just 5lbs the scope travels well, especially with a retractable dew shield, and in context I enjoyed its performance with an ASI 533MC Pro attached.

The results are typical of an Achromat in that the image is blown out on the brighter stars, and more of a muddled core. But I found the pinpoint elements in the shot give a three dimensional effect which attracts your eye toward the Great Hercules Cluster. Although unintentional to have such large bleed on the stars outside the cluster, the mix with the contrasted core is interesting! This scope is adequate in a pinch, when hauling a more complex rig is too much.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
