Description

Variable star AE Aurigae is a runaway star passing through the Flaming Star Nebula, the intrincate cloud shown left of center. In this orientation (north is down), the whole complex, comprising several nebulas, may resemble a warrior wearing a bluish helmet, IC410, and raising its right arm, IC405. In his/her chest, the bright spot is IC417. The scene also features the open clusters M36 and M38.

This image was shot under the light polluted skies of Seville city (Andalusia, Spain). In order to overcome the bright sky of a city and gain some contrast, we find ourselves forced to use narrowband filters. Processing is also fundamental to eliminate light pollution gradients and enhance the nebulosity. But nowadays, with the spread of white LEDs and their bright blue emission, even some of these filters won't help anymore. One of the exposures captured also a train of satellites beloging to a future megaconstellation.

We have to recover and protect our night sky.

Orientation: North is down.
