Description

Captured on 6/17

16 x 300 S2

20 x 300 Ha

15x 300 O2

The Omega nebula in Sagittarius at 5000-6000 ly. Low in the horizon from SE Michigan only 4 hrs and 15 minutes of lights were captured between an altitude of 16 and 32 degrees and with high clouds which is a recipe for difficult gradients. Seeing was limited to about 2.5". Despite M17 being at its optimum position this time of year it is under represented relative to its M16 neighbor.

This is my first image using Siril for stacking. Of particular interest is removal of the background using a 1-D polynomial prior to stacking which is working wonders - no background gradient removal was needed in post processing at all and allowed for a very aggressive stretch of the clean 268M data (only flats and bias were used as dark for 300s subs).

This is also my first narrowband image with the 268M. From my location 51/2.22e- S2, 57/2.22e- Ha and 86/2.22e- O2 were obtained on average for each 300s narrowband sub. With a RN of ~1.7e the noise is swamped at about 9x RN^2 for S2 and 13x RN^2 for O3.

Lum and Color layer processed separately in Startools (Dev, HDR, Sharp, Denoise)

Touchup in Studiov2 (no AI) Color is R: S60 H40, G H60, O40, B: O100. With a push for warmth. CC welcome.
