I have been fortunate to acquire a 'new to me' DSI III Pro 'high resolution' monochrome camera - when I say 'high' resolution, compared with my DSI IC and DSI IIC OSCs. The DSI III sports a Sony ICX285AL 2/3 mono chip with 6.5 micron square pixels and almost double the FOV of my DSI IIC - huge by comparison!

With cloud imminent, I took the opportunity to try this out on a familiar planetary nebula, M27, at f3 using my Optolong Ha and OIII dual narrow band filter - I am awaiting a set of L(IR)RGB filters. I was pleasantly surprised by this unguided image tracked in Envisage, comprising 30 x 1 minute exposures.

Processed in Startools with mild contrast, moderate HDR brightening and gentle sharpening - I used the life module to lift the nebula from the relatively bright background (still getting 'June' dark, low S/N ratio and taken at 15 Celsius).

I'm delighted with the improved resolution (which should also reduce the under-sampling so obvious in my camera lens images), and the much 'wider' FOV. I'm looking forward to taking my imaging on to the next level, the new features (e.g. 2x2 binning) and flexibility that this camera offers.

It is larger than my previous DSI cameras...I wonder how long before I modify it to take my homemade TEC cooler...just wondering...

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
