Description

This is the faintest object I have tried to image, by far.

I "cheated" a bit and ended up paying for it, but I still think a supernova remnant looks cool. After having some success blending RGB stars in with L-Enhance data in my California Nebula image, I thought I might try the same here. My next thought was that I could try and use my Samyang 135mm at f2 and pile on the hours over two nights, knowing that I could ignore any optical aberrations as I'd be replacing the stars. Well my lens STINKS at f2, and I didn't really realize it until I was deep into the imaging session (APT previews didn't look as bad as a stretched sub in APP). I ended up needing to crop at least half of the image, which was unfortunate because I framed the shot up to show a few DSOs (Tadpole Nebula, M36, and M37 in the corners... oh well).

I'll keep working on my nebula editing. This was definitely more challenging than previous "bright" emission nebulae.
