Description

Two opposing forces work to create the bubble in the Bubble Nebula.  A massive hot star at least forty times the size of our sun in the center of the nebula creates intense stellar wind which blows out gas within the adjacent giant molecular cloud. The leading edge of this stellar wind cools and forms the shell of the bubble we see.  This bubble is about 7 light years wide (about twice as wide as the distance from earth to the nearest star outside our solar system!) and located about 7100 light years from Earth.
